Castor and Pollux

$625.00

Mixed media artwork in color pencil and watercolor, 2025

The first duet in the Living Room Dancers series, this curious pair were born on one planet, but wanted to travel the solar system together. I named the piece for the twin stars in Gemini and their ancient Greek namesakes: brothers, sailors, travelers. As in the rest of the series, the figures are based on images scavenged from my previous life as a dancer and choreographer. Surrounding them is a watercolor playground of luminous spheres, and mysterious textures. It felt cosmic to me as I was making it, thus the celestial title.

This original artwork is matted and framed and ready to hang.

The Process of Playing

I had a blast messing around with water and pigment in these pieces. I also used salt dropped directly in the wet paint to create those feathery, crater-like shapes within the orbs. The colored pencil drawn figures are actually collaged onto the background and give the piece a comic-book like feel suggesting narrative and character. Are they villains, or heroes in their bright, blue-green domain? Perhaps a bit of both?
