The gesture of this figure called for space and sweep and sumptuous leaves swirling around her limbs. I had been wanting to work larger for some time, and this was the break-out piece. The title was given to me by a fellow artist when she saw the work for the first time. “That’s got to be called ‘Release’, right? It feels like - ah!” and my friend mimicked the figure in a rush of satisfied joy.

This original artwork comes matted and framed and is ready to hang.

The Process of Beckoning

The figure is theatrical, so it felt right to put her on a stage of sorts. Yet the action is so organic, I felt her best costars should be green-veined and lithe. I cast pothos vines in the role, and I like how they vie for the spotlight. Some might say they compete, but to me it feels like they are truly dancing together.
