Self Portrait as Mountain Lion #1

A universe of tiny dots and dashes describe the phenomenal eyes of this animal transformation, a spiritual kinship of human and puma. Told in luminous shades of acrylic ink by the tender lilt of a hand-dipped pen, this piece is a story about what wildness sees when it looks at you.

The Process of Becoming

The drawing in these artworks are done with a traditional metal dip pen to create the multiple washes of textural marks. The pen allows me precision and idiosyncrasies I can’t get anywhere else. I love how this tool requires a meditative state, and I spend many hours on each piece, allowing the forms to build up bit by tiny bit. I think that state of mental calm and spiritual attunement comes through in the artwork.
